Newton Investment Management, part of BNY Mellon Investment Management, makes senior hire.
Newton
Investment Management has hired Liliana Castillo
Dearth (pictured) to lead the firm’s emerging market and
Asia equities team.
She is replacing Paul Birchenough and Ian Smith, co-leads of
the emerging markets and Asia equities team, who left to pursue
other opportunities. In this London-based role, Dearth will
report to chief investment officer of equities, John Porter, the
firm said in a statement. She will also work with portfolio
managers Alex Khosla and Zoe Kan, and investment analysts, Fei
Chen and Aditya Shah.
Dearth has managed equity strategies for more than 20 years, most
recently as portfolio manager at Wellington Management where she
developed and managed emerging market equity portfolios,
investing in sustainable, secular growth trends in those
markets. Prior to Wellington, she spent 18 years at
AllianceBernstein, progressing from research analyst to lead
portfolio manager of international and emerging markets
portfolios, the firm continued.
“Lilliana brings with her a strong pedigree of two decades of
global emerging markets experience. Her proven investment
approach strongly aligns with Newton’s own philosophy of
research-led stock selection and she shares our focus
on maintaining a long-term investment approach to help identify
enduring areas of growth,” Porter said.
“Emerging market and Asia equities remain a strategic focus for
Newton, and we continue to see strong demand in our
capabilities,” Euan Munro, CEO of Newton, added. “Liliana will
play an important role in the development of this area of our
equity offering.”
Newton IM, which provides investment advice to institutional

Mellon Investment Management, a large asset manager, with $1.8
trillion in assets under management.
